About FXBench trading tools

What the Margin Calculator Shows

Margin is the deposit your broker holds while a leveraged position is open. Enter the pair, price, trade size and leverage, and the calculator shows how much equity the trade will tie up.

How Leverage Changes It

Required margin is the position value divided by your leverage. At 1:100 a position needs about 1% of its value as margin; at 1:30 it needs about 3.3%.

Free Margin

Whatever is not tied up as margin is free margin, and losses on open trades come out of it. Keeping plenty spare is what stops an ordinary price swing from turning into a margin call.

Margin Calls and Stop-Outs

Each broker sets its own margin call and stop-out levels, and our reviews list them. Check where a broker starts closing positions before you trade close to the limit.

Leverage Limits by Region

Regulators cap retail leverage in many regions, for example at 1:30 on major pairs under ESMA rules in the EU. The leverage you can use depends on the broker entity and where you live.
